In the midst of the American Civil War we are introduced to Captain Robert Ellicombe in his home state of Virginia in 1862. During a terrible battle, Captain Ellicombe finds personal tragedy; but within that personal tragedy he finds something beautiful, something that has become a symbolic piece of American History.

In 1972 Cleveland, Ohio, a rebellious young Alex Metzger runs away from home to travel to India and get away from his Father’s strong religious values. Suddenly he is separated from his wife and ordered to die by a Nazi Commander. In a remarkable change of events Dr. David escapes death, evades nazi Poland, and travels for years in an attempt to reconnect with his lost love.
