Troubleshooting Problems with Streaming
Movies or television shows that buffer constantly or load frequently when playing generally indicate a slow or interrupted Internet connection. The steps below address many underlying issues that cause buffering, or pauses in the playback. Completing the steps below will resolve most connection issues.
Please select your device:
Step 1: Restart Your Computer
Turn your computer off, wait for 10 seconds, and then turn it back on. Many problems can be fixed this way, and it’s one of the easiest steps you can try to fix your streaming problems.
Step 2: Restart Your Internet Connection
If Step 1 did not work, you should restart your Internet connection to attempt to resolve streaming problems. We recommend turning off both your computer AND your home network for this step.
- Turn off your computer
- Unplug your modem (and wireless router if it is separate)
- Wait 1 minute and then plug your modem in and wait for the indicator lights to appear.
- If your router is separate from your modem, plug it back in at this time.
- Turn your computer back on and return to Parables.
Step 3: Connect Your Computer Directly to Your Modem
If you are connecting through a wireless router that is connected to your modem, try bypassing the router and connecting your computer directly to the modem with an Ethernet cable.
- Turn off your computer
- Plug your computer directly into your modem using an Ethernet cable
- Unplug your modem for one minute, and then plug it in again
- Now restart your computer and return to Parables
Step 4: Improve Your Wi-Fi Signal
If you are connecting over Wi-Fi and the above steps didn’t help, try some or all of these steps to improve your wireless connectivity:
- Move your router to a new location to improve signal strength
- Move any sources of wireless interference (cordless phones, microwaves, other wireless devices) away from your wireless router.
- Elevate your router off the floor. A router on top of a bookshelf or desk will give you better reception than one that’s hidden.

Step 3: Try a Different Network Connection
If you’re still experiencing issues after restarting your device and your home network, the problem could be the network itself. If possible, connect your mobile device to a different Internet access point to rule out any potential home network configuration problems as the cause of the issue you’re experiencing. Some examples:
- Attempt to connect to a different Wi-Fi network with your device
- Bring your device to a neighbor’s or friend’s house and attempt to stream using their Wi-Fi network
- Try using your cellular data network to connect to Parables. We don’t advise streaming over a data network, but it is a good way to see if a home network configuration issue is what’s keeping you from streaming
- If you are able to stream using a different Internet connection, we recommend checking with whoever set up your home network to resolve any potential issues with the configuration.
